Our founder, Vishnu Saran, shares about his experience in the construction site safety industry with video analytics.

Q: What sparked your interest in the construction industry?

A: Construction is all around us, but yet we fail to notice it in our everyday busy lives. As I used to walk around, there were so many construction sites, but I never really paid attention. Suddenly, I took interest in some futuristic construction robots from Japan, and I started to look more closely. That was when I got interested in this engineering marvel.

Q: What are the construction industry trends?

A: Construction is heavily gearing toward automation at this moment with a lot of focus on productivity and progress tracking.

A major reason why there’s productivity losses is actually due to safety lapses. This is where Invigilo's video analytics comes in too, where we aim to improve construction site safety by preventing safety lapses not just to save lives - but also potentially save a lot of time for the contractors.

There is also the other trend of digital twins and resource management, where sensors and powerful cameras are used to create digital twins of the as built site and compare it with the Building Information Model.

Q: What have you learned about working in construction?

A: The construction industry is very huge and there are a lot of stakeholders involved. There’s a great deal of stakeholder management, especially in this industry. Many times the end users are not the decision makers, and there’s a lot of to and fro.

This industry is also opening up to digital opportunities and the management of these companies are also more willing to adopt innovative technology solutions.

Q: What have you learned so far as a start-up founder?

A: I have thoroughly been enjoying my journey and have learnt a lot in the process thus far. It requires a lot of passion and commitment but in return I have gotten a lot of cool opportunities which I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. Meeting people from different backgrounds, dabbling with all the different components in a company and managing stakeholder expectations are all stuff that I do on a daily basis. The start-up journey has been generally rewarding for me.

How to Prevent Line of Fire Incidents in Manufacturing With AI Cameras

People drifting under suspended loads during lifts is one of the most common—and preventable—risks in manufacturing. AI video analytics can detect when someone enters the exclusion zone during active lifting and alert supervisors in real time. Start with one high-traffic lifting bay, enforce a simple rule, and fix the patterns that keep pulling people into the danger zone.

How To Monitor Missing Barricades On Construction Sites Remotely

Barricades get moved during work and often aren't restored fast enough—leaving edges, shafts, and openings exposed. AI video analytics on existing CCTV can detect missing barricades in real time and alert supervisors before someone gets hurt. Start with two or three hotspots, prove the loop works, then expand.

How To Detect Unauthorised Personnel In Hazardous Zones in the Oil And Gas Industry

Access control stops people at the door—not inside restricted areas where real risks happen. By drawing intrusion zones on existing CCTV, AI detects red-zone entry in real time and alerts supervisors before incidents escalate. Start with one high-consequence zone, tune for accuracy, and build a response loop that actually prevents repeats.
