NUS Enterprise, the entrepreneurial arm of the National University of Singapore, published a feature on Invigilo Technologies Pte Ltd on 11 January 2023 in Enterprise SPARKS, its publication on Medium. The article, titled Invigilo Technologies: Safety Doesn't Happen by Accident, tells the story of how the company was built.
The founding story runs through the university. Vishnu Saran studied Materials Science and Engineering at the National University of Singapore and joined the NUS Overseas Colleges programme at Stanford. In March 2020, during the pandemic, he left his job to build the company, funding it himself at the start. Invigilo later refined the product through the NUS Graduate Research Innovation Programme in 2021 and incubated at BLOCK71 Singapore.
The article describes SafeKey, the AI video analytics module of the platform, identifying hazards in real time through the cameras a site already has and alerting safety officers before an incident. It reports early results from deployments in Singapore, including work on projects under the Housing & Development Board and the Land Transport Authority and for clients including Hyundai Engineering & Construction: a 60 percent reduction in accidents, 40 percent cost savings and eight times more safety coverage.
What this means for customers
The feature is a time capsule: a first product, a handful of deployments, a co-founder who had just left his job. The numbers it reported were early, and they held. The same pattern, continuous observation through existing cameras followed by fewer incidents, is what the platform delivers today across close to 200 active sites.
